Retreat readiness score

Most retreats are decided before anyone books a flight

The budget, the goal, and the honest state of your team. Get those three wrong and no venue, facilitator, or ropes course saves the week. Eight questions will tell you where you actually stand.

Planning maturityHow much of this is genuinely decided, and how much is still a group chat?
Budget clarityThe question everyone skips until it's too late to fix.
Engagement riskWhether the room shows up, or quietly checks out by the first coffee break.

8 questions, about two minutes. You'll get a score plus the two or three guides that fit your situation. Not all five.

Experience our retreats

Two minutes inside a real retreat: the room, the work, and what teams sound like on the other side of it.

The problem

Organizing an effective retreat is harder than you think

Get more of your time back. Two mistakes account for most retreats that land flat, and both are avoidable.

A venue booked, the agenda left to chance
Mistake 01

Booking a venue with food isn't team building

We've seen many teams make this mistake: believing that if we just get people together and add some fun activities, that's enough. It falls short of the goals of relationship building and teamwork.

01Food, drinks and social time are essential, but don't mistake that for team building.
02Most retreat companies book the venue and forget the transformational work.
03Strong relationships take intentionality and design on the facilitator's part.
Mistake 02

Teamwork is not learned through hours of presentations

Some teams jam-pack their retreats with departmental presentations, hour after hour, hoping to create cross-collaboration. You have to empower your team through experiential learning.

01Poorly designed workshops aren't engaging and don't inspire the team.
02Precious retreat time gets spent on presentations instead of practice.
03Nothing said from a stage changes how a team works on Monday.
Hour after hour of departmental presentations

Two ways to work with us

Some teams want us to run the whole thing. Some just need the part most retreat companies forget. Pick the one that fits where you are.

A team celebrating together on the deck
Option 01

Full-Service Retreat

We design the program and run the logistics end-to-end: venue, accommodation, food, RSVPs, and budget negotiation. We hunt for deals against your budget and hand back whatever we save.

Best if: you want your time back and a single team owning the whole event.

Option 02

Facilitation Only

You’ve handled the venue and the travel. We bring the transformational program and facilitate it on-site, starting from what you’ve already built, with no rip-and-replace.

Best if: logistics are covered and you need the part that changes how the team works.
Not sure which one you need? Sometimes the right answer is "you don't need us for the venue at all."

Teams that left different

Not "we had a nice time." Real shifts in how teams communicate and hold together, the kind that outlast the flight home.

Trualta · E-learning

Retreats became how Trualta attracts and keeps great people.

Working with Jonathan Davis, Founder & CEO

Losing the talent war to companies like Shopify and unable to out-pay them, Jonathan needed a culture worth staying for. One day of team-building, then a day and a half on strategy, and he almost talked Fahd out of the “silly games.”

Tablz · Hospitality tech

Tablz found product-market fit during its hardest internal stretch.

Working with Frazer Nagy, Founder & CEO

A difficult leadership transition, unfunded term sheets, and real strain on genuine trust. Offsite work built a shared vocabulary of Six Levels, Four Stages of Empowerment, Gottman’s Four Horsemen and DISC, plus meetings rebuilt for ego-free debate.

Facilitators who know exactly what your agenda needs to be

Program design

A retreat isn't booked. It's designed.

What happens before the retreat, and who's reading the room while it runs, is the whole difference.

Two teammates talking something through
01 · Discovery

We find the real problem first

Stakeholder interviews plus a team assessment, DISC or Team Dysfunctions, so the agenda answers what your team actually needs rather than what looks good on a schedule.

A team working through a draft around a laptop
02 · Agenda design

We co-build the agenda with you

A draft agenda tuned to your Bonding / Building / Strategy ratio, reviewed together before anything is locked in.

A facilitated group exercise outdoors
03 · On-site

Fahd runs the room. You get to be in it.

Fahd facilitates so leaders can participate as team members instead of hosting. Experiential work, not presentations.

Back at the desk after the retreat
04 · Follow-up

The work does not end at the airport

You leave with the commitments written down and a plan for the operating habits that keep them alive once everyone is back at their desks.

How it works

The Unicorn Labs 3-step retreat process

From the first call to a booked venue: how the logistics actually run.

01Consult

Retreat planning consultation

We learn everything you're looking for and help you sort out what you haven't thought of. Most importantly we set the Bonding / Building / Strategy ratio.

02Design

Design process & proposal

We come back with package options that fit your budget, or honest alternatives if they don't. You get a proposal to hand your executives: venue options, programming, workshops. A first deposit secures the date.

03Deliver

End-to-end planning & negotiating

You get an account manager for everything. We book venues, accommodation and food, and keep negotiating after the budget is agreed. Every dollar saved goes back to you.

StrategyGoals, plans, growth
Do we have a choice in the programming?

Always. We start with what you already have and build from there, full-service or facilitation only.

Do you also help book travel?

For large group travel we have partners who make it easy. For a few people flying in, it’s simplest for each to book their own.

The Unicorn Leaders Promise

If the transformation doesn't land, you don't pay

If you or your team members are unsatisfied by the leadership transformation, you receive a total refund. No conditions, no negotiation.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What's the benefit of having someone else facilitate our retreat content?
When you're trying to plan the show, run the show, and deliver the messaging, you don't have time to just be part of the team and participate. Bring us in for the heavy lifting and you get to enjoy the time with your team while we worry about the details.
What if we have an administrative issue during our retreat?
This is why we're here. We don't just bring transformational learning; we're on site to handle any challenge that comes up with booking, meals or activities, so you can sit back and enjoy it alongside your team.
What if we have changes within the team before the retreat?
We work on our relationships with providers so that you don't have to. If something changes within the booking we can adjust those elements on our side within a reasonable time before the event. Otherwise we work with the venues to see what's possible and negotiate on your behalf.
How do you make the content relevant to our company?
In our planning stage we gather insights and objectives from a variety of stakeholders, in addition to completing assessments with your team. We pull those information streams together to build your team's custom program.
We have information to share outside of team-building sessions. How do you accommodate that?
All of our content is co-curated to suit the needs of your team. If you have content you need to present, we work with you to find the best spot in the agenda to deliver your message.
What is your minimum and maximum number of people?
We can run retreats for an executive team of four or five, and we can accommodate your full crew as long as we're able to find a venue that fits the group.
We have a lot of dietary preferences and restrictions. How do you make that work?
We work with the venue to share dietary needs and ensure there are suitable options for every member of your team. As long as we know with advance notice, we're able to ensure accommodations.
We're not located in Ontario. Can we still work with Unicorn Labs?
Yes. We're happy to travel to you: here in Ontario, across North America, or somewhere a little more exotic.
Next step

If you don't build the team, someone else will
